| INDOOR TOURNAMENT (sponsored by Tracmaster Ltd) |
|
Twelve Mid Sussex League clubs took part in the Bernard Bradford Memorial Indoor 5-a-side Tournament sponsored by Tracmaster Ltd at Olympos Burgess Hill on Tuesday last week, 5 February. The draw had produced an even split of clubs down to the League's Division 6 but it seemed in the Group matches the two teams emerging to enter the semi-finals Old Varndeanians, the holders, and a strong Uckfield Town side would be too powerful for the two from the more evenly contested Group B East Court and Wivelsfield Green. However, this was not the case as Group A winners Old Varndeanians went down 2-0 against Group B runners-up Wivelsfield Green while Group B winners East Court overcame Uckfield Town with a 1-0 scoreline. In the final Wivelsfield Green who had gone down 2-0 to East Court in their Group match earlier in the evening swept into a 3-0 lead and eventually won the match 4-2 to put their name on the trophy for the first time. The final order in Group A being (1) Old Varndeanians played 5 won 4 lost 1 goals for 15 goals against 7 points 12; (2) Uckfield Town played 5 won 4 lost 1 goals for 14 goals against 12 points 12; (3) East Grinstead United played 5 won 3 drawn 1 lost 1 goals for 10 goals against 8 points 10; (4) AFC Grinstead played 5 won 2 lost 3 goals for 10 goals against 9 points 6; (5) Copthorne Rovers played 5 won 1 lost 4 goals for 11 goals against 16 points 3 and (6) Heath Pilgrims played 5 drawn 1 lost 4 goals for 4 goals against 15 points 1. In Group B the positions were (1) East Court played 5 won 4 lost 1 goals for 8 goals against 4 points 12; (2) Wivelsfield Green played 5 won 3 drawn 1 lost 1 goals for 7 goals against 6 points 10; (3) Franklands Village played 5 won 2 lost 3 goals for 9 goals against 7 points 6; (4) Maresfield Village played 5 won 1 drawn 2 lost 2 goals for 9 goals against 10 points 5; (5) Turners Hill played 5 won 1 drawn 2 lost goals for 6 goals against 7 points 5 and (6) Hurstpierpoint played 5 won 1 drawn 1 lost 3 goals for 6 goals against 7 points 4.
