Leeson in Blue Cross switch

Wootton Blue Cross have appointed John Leeson as their new manager after parting company with Phil Silvestri.

Silvestri had taken over at Weston Park in November 2004, stepping up from reserve boss after Ken Davidson resigned to take the reins at St Neots. The season just ended promised much with Blue Cross in title conention in mid term but they faded to finish ninth after winning just one game in the last third of the season.

New boss Leeson has been with Wootton before, as reserve team manager. He was at the second string helm when Blue Cross won the Reserve Knockout Cup as a Reserve Division Two side in 2002. He was later second string boss at Kempston before taking the first team helm at Hillgrounds in partnership with Clive Black in the summer of 2005.

The pair revived Rovers fortunes and Leeson continued the good work after Black left the Walnut Boys last summer. Kenpston ended the 2006-07 season in third place and Whitworths' lack of facilities saw Rovers handed a Premier Division place.

April/May award winners

The season's final managerial awards have been won by managers of highly contrasting levels of experience.

Premier winner Bob Don-Duncan of Boston Town has been managing at UCL level and above for around 33 years and his latest award is the reward for the Poachers' fifteen point haul from five April league games and success in the Knockout Cup when Boston beat Potton on penalties.

By contrast Division One winner Martin Walker is a 'rookie' at senior level, having stepped up to the Elderstubbs hot seat at the start of April following Tony Perry's departure. Five wins and a draw at the helm took Town to a top four finish and earned the new Daventry boss his reward.

Ten goals in domestic football during April earned Brett Donnelly the Goalscorer of the Month accolade. The Potton marksman finished the season on a high, scoring three times in the Royals' penultimate league game against Buckingham and following up with a four goal salvo at Desborough two days later.

After leading Potton to the Premier Division runners-up medals in the 2004-05 season as co-manager with Dick Newman, Bloxham took a break from the game last term before taking over from Ian Donnelly in the summer of 2006. This time round he has led the Royals to fourth place in the league, two cup finals and the last 32 of the FA Vase.

Cooper takes the Star reins

Peterborough Northern Star have unveiled Tommy Cooper as their new manager following Darren Young's move to Huntingdon.

Cooper enjoyed spectacular success with the now defunct Ortonians club, winning two Peterborough League championships, two Peterborough FA Senior Cups and the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup when they beat St Neots in the club's last ever match.

Graham Robinson will assist Cooper.

Young in Huntingdon switch

Peterborough Northern Star manager Darren Young has switched to Division One rivals Huntingdon Town, replacing Paul Swannell in the Jubilee Park hot seat.

The former Corby Town youth boss took the Star reins during last summer and steered the Peterborough side to fifth place in Division One in his first season on the UCL managerial circuit.

Former UCL officials get FA Cup appointments

Two graduates of the UCL refereeing panel will feature as assistant referees in the FA Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester United.

Dave Bryan, a UCL official from 1988 to 1995, and Peter Kirkup, who officiated on the league from 1989 to 1998, have been appointed to the game as the competition makes its long awaited return to Wembley.

Our congratulations go to both Dave and Peter.

Reserve titles for Cogenhoe and St Neots

The championships of both reserve divisions were decided on 28 April.

Cogenhoe completed a league and cup double as they carried off the Reserve Division One crown with a 3-1 success at Yaxley. Goals from Joe Rich, Adam Goodacre and Ashley Bradshaw won the crown for the Cooks, while Northampton Spencer secured the runners up medals by drawing 3-3 at nearest rivals Whitworths.

It was all up for grabs in Reserve Division Two at Olney where the Nurserymen took on St Neots in a winner takes all clash. The Saints clinched the title with a 4-0 win, their marksmen Ivan Finch, Tony Davis, Barrington Belegrave and Mark Oakley. Olney finished out of the promotion places with Bugbrooke taking the runners up medals.

Collins the Cogenhoe choice

Thirty nine year old former Cogenhoe player Darren Collins will return to Compton Park at the end of the season to fill the managerial vacancy left by Adam Sandy's departure.

Collins was a key man in the Cooks' 2004-05 championship success. In the current campaign he has been plundering goals galore in Wellingborough's pursuit of promotion.

The new Cogenhoe chief first appeared on the local scene in 1988 when Northampton Town signed him from non league outfit Petersfield. After 51 Football League matches and nine goals for the Cobblers he dropped into the part time ranks, excelling during Rushden & Diamonds' rise up the ladder. With 153 goals to his name he is the all time top scorer for the Nene Park club and his form there earned him four England semi professional caps.

Swannell to step down at Huntingdon

Huntingdon manager Paul Swannell is to step down as boss at Jubilee Park after Town complete the season.

The former March manager took charge of Town last summer, but his new look side has struggled for results this term.

Swannell may continue with Huntingdon in a non managerial role.

Veterans shine in Poachers' success

Veterans Gary Bull and Bart Griemink were the stars of the show as Boston won the Knockout Cup for the second time in four years, beating Potton 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 extra time draw in the final at Blackstones.

Bull gave the Poachers the lead after 18 minutes with a speculative effort from 35 yards, but Potton levelled ten minutes into the second half, Brett Donnelly scoring with a lob.

Bull restored Boston's lead with his 44th domestic goal of the season, a 98th minute spot kick after Paul Goodhand was fouled by Nathan Buckland. With four of the additional thirty minutes remaining Gareth Cottenden's header from Lee Allinson's free kick took the tie into a penalty shootout.

The penalty contest gave Dutch goalkeeper Griemink the opportunity to become a hero, saving Potton's first and fourth kicks taken by Steve Kuhne and Cottenden respectively. In between Allinson and Paul Donnelly netted for the Royals but all four Poachers kicks were converted, Goodhand, Jon Rowan, Bull and Shaun Baker the men on the mark.

Deeping wrap up title

Deeping are Premier Division champions for the first time after sealing their success with a 2-0 victory at Northampton Spencer on 17 April.

A spectacular solo effort from Mark Baines gave Rangers a 27th minute lead, Sam Bettinson adding a second two minutes into the second half.

With just one defeat in 38 matches it has been a spectacular season for Deeping under rookie manager Tuncay Korkmaz who has transformed a club which only avoided the relegation zone by one place in 2005-06.

The next target is 100 points, three required from Deeping's last two games. They also have the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy final against Lincoln Moorlands to look forward to along with a Hinchingbrooke Cup semi final agaist BGB Southern League Barton Rovers.

Whitworths claim first crown

Whitworths clinched their first Division One championship on 14 April, a 3-1 derby success at near neighbours Higham taking clear of the reach of outgoing champions Sleaford.

Goals from Ben Holley, Stuart Goosey (penalty) and Rob Foster prompted joyful scenes at Vine Hill Drive.

Whitworths have a home fixture with Peterborough Northern Star to negotiate if they are to join an exclusive band of clubs to have completed the season unbeaten in the league. Stewarts & Lloyds Reserves were unbeaten in 38 matches in Reserve Division Two in the 1992-93 season, otherwise the feat has not been accomplished for 99 years!

Carlin to leave ON Chenecks

Scott Carlin is to step down as manager of ON Chenecks at the end of the season. Before his arrival at Billing Road Carlin managed former Division One rivals Blisworth.

Walker takes charge at Daventry

45 year old Martin Walker has taken the Daventry Town reins. He played for VS Rugby and Southam and was both reserve boss and youth development officer at Rugby Town before joining Daventry this term as Tony Perry's assistant.

March award winners

March Manager of the Month in the Premier Division is Roy Bloxham of Potton United. His side picked up 14 points from six unbeaten league games and also beat Yaxley and Northampton Spencer to reach the League Knockout Cup final.

Division One top boss is Thrapston's Paul Smith whose side rattled in 27 goals in winning five of their six March matches.

Cogenhoe hotshot Steve Diggin is the March Goalscorer of the Month after netting nine times in domestic football during the month.

Perry steps down at Daventry

Long serving Daventry Town stalwart Tony Perry has stepped down as manager at the Communications Stadium. Perry has undertaken a variety of off field roles in a decade with the club and took over as manager in the summer of 2005. He departs due to changes in persnal circumstances.

Deeping maintain lead

Deeping took a big step towards a first Premier title on 24 March, beating Cogenhoe 3-0 at Outgang Road. Mark Baines, Michael Stevenson and David Cobb shared the Rangers goals. Boston Town remain their nearest challengers after a late Gary Bull penalty gave them a 2-1home win overDesborough and the veteran marksman a club goalscoring record. Michael Byrne was the Desborough scorer after Mark Hackett's own goal handed Boston the lead. Wellingborough lost ground in a scoreless stalemate at Buckingham who picked up a first point in eleven games.

After a goalless first half two Gareth Cottenden goals and singles from Brett Donnelly and Steve Kuhne won it for the Royals. Vinny Shrieves and Scott Mulkern were the Newport Pagnell scorers in a 2-1 victory at Yaxley who replied late on through James Picillo. Next to bottom Ford Sports lost 2-1 at St Ives who plundered the points in stoppage time through Dan Pilsworth after Will Fordham's opener was matched by Matty Cox.

Darren Harmon, Richard Wesley, Kevin Slinn and Danny Duggan shared the Buckby goals with cousions Shaun and Nick Keeble on target for the Tigers. St Neots eased closer to safety beating Raunds 1-0 at Rowley Park with a Mark Franklin strike in time added on while Stotfold picked up three vaulable points by beating Stewarts & Lloyds 3-2 at Roker. Callum Donnelly, Ricky Case and Tawhid Juneja all scored in the space of six first half minutes to give the Eagles the points, Greig McIlwain scoring in each half for S&L.

Thrapston and Sleaford were both among the goals in Division One on 24th March Glenroy Bell and Jamie Poole scored two apiece as Thrapston routed Bugbrooke 9-1 at Chancery Lane. Paul Norton and two goal Mark Redding were the other Town marksmen with Jamie Bull replying for the Badgers. Sleaford ran out 7-1 home winners against ON Chenecks. Jamie Shaw scored three, Jason Sedlan two and Jason Harrison and Pete Sutton one apiece with Chenecks manager Scott Carlin netting the visiting consolation. Leaders Whitworths won 3-0 at home to Higham with goals from Stuart Goosey, Ben Holley and James Daldy in the final quarter of the contest.

AFC Kempston look sure of a top three finish after a 3-1 success at Sileby. Krysztof Matiskiewicz, Krysztof Karpiuk and Gavin Batt scored for the Walnut Boys, Lee Bradley the Sileby marksman. Peterborough Northern Star lost 1-0 at Eynesbury who claimed a first win in eight through a late Craig Smith strike. Olney's good form continued with a 1-0 home win over Rothwell Corinthians, Tim Mason the matchwinner.

Sandy set for Cogenhoe exit

Adam Sandy will be stepping down as manager of Cogenhoe at the end of the season. He has spent four years at the Compton Park helm since succeeding Aidy mann in May 2003.

Sandy led Cogenhoe to their first Premier Division championship in the 2004-05 season.

Deeping bounce back

There was no hangover for Deeping on 17 March as they bounced back from their first defeat to win 2-0 at Wootton with a Matt Jones own goal and John Paul Duncliffe effort, both in the second half. A solitary strike from player-boss Nick Ashby saw Wellingborough beat Bourne 1-0 at the Dog & Duck while Boston Town trounced bottom markers Buckingham 4-0 at Tattershall Road, Gary Bull and Paul Goodhand scoring two apiece. Potton moved into the top four with their sixth successive win, 2-0 at Stewarts & Lloyds, Lee Allinson (penalty) and Brett Donnelly on target.

Cogenhoe were beaten 2-0 at home by St Ives who claimed their first league win of 2007 with goals from Lloyd Howard and Chris Ewles in the last six minutes. Blackstones edged out Raunds 4-3 in a Lincoln Road thriller. Two goals from Kevin Ainslie and late strikes from Ross Watson and Dan Cotton won it for Stones with Callum Ridgway, Richard Tanner and Adam Taylor on the mark for the Shopmates. Northampton Spencer regained their goal touch with a 4-1 success at next to bottom Ford Sports who went ahead through Reuben Max-Grant. Pete Gregory, Darren Frost, Ben Foster and Zac Nedimovic shared the Millers' replies.

St Neots won 3-2 at home to Holbeach, a brace from Ryan Francis and an Adam Jackson own goal securing the points despite a late Tigers fightback which brought goals from Tommy Treacher and Ian Dunn. Long Buckby are unbeaten in six after a 3-2 victory at Newport Pagnell. Whitworths back on top

Sleaford were on the sidelines on 17 March after going top of Division One in midweek and Whitworths took advantage to regain pole position with a 4-1 London Road defeat of Thrapston who led at the break through Glenroy Bell. The Flourmen turned the tables after the interval with a double from James Daldy and one apiece from Dan Spaughton and Rob Foster. AFC Kempston look sure of a top three finish after winning 3-1 at Peterborough Northern Star. Richard Cook, Krysztof Matieskiewicz and Krysztof Karpiuk had the Walnut Boys all but home and dry at the interval, Andy Wilson replying for Star in the second half.

A late Lee Howard goal gave Higham a 1-0 victory at Huntingdon while Derek Simmons gave Burton Park a 1-0 verdict at home to Rothwell Corinthians. Tom Berwick's 26th goal of the season could only earn Daventry a 1-1 home draw with Sileby, who replied through Lee Haines, while Irchester and Olney drew 0-0 at Alfred Street.

Wins for Premier top three

It's as you were in the Premier Division after victories for the top three on 10 March. Leaders Deeping avenged a League Knockout Cup defeat by Desborough with a 4-1 Outgang Road success. As in the cup tie Jamie O'Neill gave Ar Tarn a first minute lead but a Danny Matson hat trick and Lee Ellison penalty made it 29 matches unbeaten for Rangers. Nearest challengers Wellingborough overwhelmed struggling Ford Sports 8-1 after falling behind to Danny Wright's opener. David Glass levelled before the break and Jon Mitchell marked his return from suspension with a four goal haul after the break. Jed Ainge, Adam Hancock and Mike Sneddon completed the rout. A lone strike from substitute Jamie Smith three minutes from time saw Boston Town pip Northampton Spencer 1-0 at Tattershall Road.

Potton veteran Steve Kuhne hit a hat trick as the Royals demolished Raunds 5-1 at The Hollow to move into the top five. Paul Garrett and Luke Donnelly were the other Potton marksmen after Callum Ridgway had opened the scoring for the Shopmates. Cogenhoe returned to winning ways with a 2-0 success at Bourne, thanks to second half goals from Neil Champelovier and Steve Diggin, while Long Buckby's four match winning run was halted by a 1-1 Station Road draw with Blackstones, Danny Duggan and Richard Thompson the respective marksmen.

St Neots' climb was halted by a 3-1 loss at Holbeach. Ian Dunn's opener for the Tigers was cancelled out by John Coley only for a late brace from Nick Keeble to win it for the Tigers, he also had a penalty saved after that, a fate suffered by Saints skipper Russell Lawes with no score on the board. Wes Byrne's last minute equaliser gave Stotfold a 2-2 draw at home to Wootton who led with a first half Craig Daniel brace before Bobby Dance opened the Eagles account. Buckingham's plight looks desperate after they lost 1-0 at home to Stewarts & Lloyds, Bobby Drain's goal at the start of the second period winning it for the ten man visitors who had goalkeeper Richard Lavin red carded after twenty minutes for a professional foul.

Whitworths rally to preserve record

The 10 March action in Division One almost saw Whitworths lose their unbeaten record at lowly ON Chenecks. Harry Barnes and Neil Lovell gave Chenecks a two goal lead but Rob Foster and a Scott Barczewski own goal earned the Flourmen a 2-2 draw at Billing Road. Goals from Jamie Shaw and Kris Jones in the last nine minutes gave Sleaford a 2-0 home win over bottom markers Irchester and a good day for the champions saw third placed AFC Kempston lose ground, drawing 1-1 at home to Eynesbury. Craig Damon's opener for the Walnut Boys was matched by a James Dove reply for the visitors.

Fourth placed Peterborough Northern Star returned to winning ways, beating Sileby 2-0 with first half goals from Richard Moore and David Martin while Matt Peacock's solitary effort gave Higham a 1-0 Vine Hill Drive win over Daventry who suffered a first loss in eight.

Goals from Dave Townsend and Dave Briffa gave Rothwell Corinthians a 2-1 home win over Bugbrooke who were first on the scoresheet through Gavin Richardson. Olney beat Burton Park 4-2 at East Street after trailing to early visiting strikes from Derek Simmons and Matty Clarke. A Fionn Hart double and one apiece from Paul Munday and Paul Fisher turned the game in the Nurserymen's favour.

Saints reach final on shootout

Goalkeeper Rob Mackney was the St Ives hero as his side beat Yaxley 3-2 in a penalty shootout to book a Huntingdonshire Senior Cup final place against Hampton.

The two sides failed to muster a goal between them in normal or extra time giving Mackney the chance to step into the limelight with shootout saves from Scott Bogusz, Lee Blewett and Mark Paul. Simon Acton and Ian Edge netted for the Cuckoos but Will Fordham, Jason King and Graeme Thackray converted their kicks to take St Ives through.

Goals galore in limited Premier programme

Just five matches beat the weather in the Premier Division on 3rd March but a remarkable thirty goals were scored.

Leaders Deeping were among the clubs left sitting out the action, while their two nearest challengers Boston Town and Wellingborough met at Tattershall Road. The Poachers had the bulk of the possession but the Doughboys' clinical finishing saw Nick Ashby's side run out 5-2 winners. Alfie Taylor, Matt Green and Mike Sneddon gave Wellingborough a three goal advantage in the opening 21 minutes. Gary Bull's 35th goal of the season gave Boston a glimmer of hope before the break but the Doughboys' own veteran marksman Darren Collins scored two headers after the interval either side of a Paul Goodhand free kick for the Poachers.

Northampton Spencer were on the wrong end of an upset going down 2-0 at relegation threatened Stotfold who picked up three vital points with second half goals from Wes Byrne and Tawhid Juneja. Wootton fought back to draw 2-2 with Stewarts & Lloyds at Weston Park, Craig Daniel and Steve Gentle the home scorers after they trailed to goals from Paul Doherty and Michael Stanton.

Glen Turner scored three as Cogenhoe demolished Holbeach 8-1 at Compton Park. Steve Diggin hit two with singles from Neil Champelovier and Rob Goldring and a Martyn Cundy own goal making up the home tally and Ian Dunn replying for the Tigers. Another hat trick hero was Long Buckby's Kevin Slinn whose first half treble put Glen Botterill's side on the way to a 7-1 win over Bourne at Station Road. Richard Wesley, Darren Harmon, Jon Crockett and Danny Duggan (penalty) were also on the scoresheet for Buckby with Robbie Pearce scoring the Wakes' consolation.

During that time he led the Eagles to the runners-up medals in 1996, their best ever UCL finish. A day of Vase disappointment

A day of disappointments in the FA Vase saw just five clubs make 2nd Qualifying Round progress on 23rd September. The all-Eagle Bitter UCL derby saw Deeping win 3-1 at home to Yaxley. Michael Stevenson, Lee Ellison and Dave Cornell saw Rangers through with Lee Blewett replying for the Cuckoos. Blackstones breezed past Downham 4-1 with a Richard Thompson brace and singles from Dan Cotton and Graeme Epps, while Darren Collins was Wellingborough's matchwinner in a 1-0 victory at Tring.

Two clubs won through in extra time. Cogenhoe saw off Biggleswade Town 3-1 with Dan Brown, Justin McKenzie and an own goal counting for the Cooks while Boston Town edged out Haverhill 3-2 with Matt Price, Gary Bull and Paul Goodhand the Poachers scorers. Bourne drew 4-4 with former winners Diss at the Abbey Lawn, Ben Stainsby and Miles Mason scoring two apiece.

Division One clubs have again failed to make any impact. AFC Kempston exited 3-0 to Saffron Walden, Eynesbury lost 2-1 to Gorleston after leading through Ricky Taylor and Huntingdon suffered a shock 1-0 reverse in their derby at Godmanchester. A last minute extra time winner saw Rothwell Corinthians bow out 2-1 to Eton Manor after scoring first through Tony Ielapi. There was also an extra time loss for Newport Pagnell, 3-0 to Chalfont St Peter. There were disappointing reverses against lower level opposition for Stewarts & Lloyds, 2-0 at Cockfosters, and Wootton, 2-1 at Harpenden after leading through Darek Jozwiak.

Other casualties were Long Buckby, defeated 3-0 at Edgware, Raunds 2-1 losers at Oxhey with an Ian Symington goal their only reward, and St Ives who had Jamie Blackwell on the mark in a 2-1 defeat at Kirkley. The heaviest defeat was suffered by Buckingham whose marksman in a 7-1 defeat by Witney was manager Tony Joyce.

Pole eludes Spencer but not Sleaford

Northampton Spencer missed the chance of a return to pole position in the Premier Division on 23 September as they went down 1-0 to Potton with Nathan Buckland's spot kick proving decisive. Desborough completed a double over Holbeach winning 2-1 at the Waterworks Field with Danny Pownall and Jamie O'Neill overturning Ian Dunn's opener for the Tigers. St Neots caretaker boss Iain Parr signed off his three match stint at the helm with a 3-2 victory at Stotfold. Ashley Deverall, Sean Murray and Mark Franklin gave the Saints the points with the Eagles replying through Ian Thorne and Patrick Alcide.

The leadership of Division One did change hands though as a solitary Jason Sedlan strike earned Sleaford a fifth win of the season, 1-0 at Daventry. Sileby and Olney drew 3-3 at Fernie Fields. Danny Smith, Luke Stone and Lee Bradley scored for Sileby with Steve Foster, Danny Norris and Nick Beevis replying for the Nurserymen.

Goals aplenty in Junior Cup

The Northants Junior Cup got underway with gpals galore in First Round ties on 23 September. Peterborough Northern Star, finalits in the last two seasons led the way with a 10-0 success at Broadmead Saints. Shootouts settle Knockout Cup tie

Two of the four Knockout Cup ties played on 19th September needed shootouts to produce a winner.

The lone Preliminary Round tie saw 2006 runners-up St Neots crash 3-0 at Desborough whose marksmen were Danny Rogers, Michael Byrne (penalty) and David Glass while in Round One Ashley Stevens scored the only goal as Blackstones won 1-0 at St Ives.

The derby between Newport Pagnell and Buckingham finished 1-1 after extra time with Vinny Shrieves and Reuben Max-Grant the respective marksmen and the Robins survived the dismissals of Wayne Spencer and Chris Robson in extra time to take the tie to penalties. The Swans' nerve deserted them in the shootout as Buckingham ran out 3-0 winners. Raunds, with impressive FA Cup and Vase wins behind them in recent weeks, needed a penalty contest to edge out lower grade leaders Whitworths 4-2 after Richard Tanner and Ben Holley had exchanged goals in the match proper.

Lincolnshire sides progress

Cup action on 19th September saw away victories for two Lincolnshire clubs. Boston Town kicked off the new Lincolnshire Senior Trophy with a 4-2 First Round success at Appleby Frodingham. Gary Bull, Jamie Smith, Jonny Rowan and Paul Goodhand shared the Poachers goals.

Yaxley enjoyed a dramtic 2-1 success at Ryman League Wivenhoe. First half goals from Mark Paul and Ricky Hailstone proved enough to give the Cuckoos a higher grade scalp as they survived Hailstone's dismissal and a stoppage time penalty miss from the Dragons.

Anton D'Avilar and Will Fordham were on the scoresheet for St Ives in an 8-2 reverse at Boreham Wood while the dismissal of goalkeeper Brad Gillham proved too big a hurdle to overcome as Potton went down 6-1 at Heybridge, Mark Bryant the Royals scorer. Michael Stevenson netted as Deeping suffered their first defeat of the season, 4-1 at Rugby while Long Buckby exited 2-1 to Rothwell Town, Jon Dowling the Bucks' marksman.

Teeling played for Welwyn Garden City and previously managed Shillington. He has also coached junior teams at Watford.

Kuhne and Fox leave St Neots

St Neots manager Steve Kuhne and assistant Steve Fox have resigned their positions at Rowley Park this week following the Saints' poor start to the campaign. Last season the pair led St Neots to a top four finish and three cup finals, but this season the Saints collected only four points from their first six matches.

Veteran goalkeeper Steve Young will take up the post of caretaker manager with effect from 25 September. In the meantime reserve manager Iain Parr will take the reins for three matches.

John Leeson will now manage the side on his own, with coaching duties assigned to former Rovers and Bedford Town goalkeeper Maurice O'Donnell.

Wootton go top on night of high scoring
Four Premier Division games played on 16 August saw 24 goals scored and Wootton ended the second round of matches in pole position on goals scored after thrashing St Neots 5-2 at Rowley Park. Steve Gentle, Jack Weedon, Danny Wilkinson and two goal Darek Jozwiak shared the Blue Cross goals with ex-Wootton men Ashley Deverell and Jon Hoggett the Saints' marksmen.

Buckingham trailed by three goals to managerless Stotfold early in the second half but fought back to win 5-4 at Ford Meadow. Four goal Reuben Max-Grant inspired the Robins to victory with Rory Hunter also on target. Eagles scorers were Ryan Mitchell, two goal Craig Reynolds and Ian Thorne.

Ian Dunn (penalty), Adam Jackson and Ross Nichols were on the scoresheet as Holbeach beat Yaxley 3-1 at Carters Park, Ricky Hailstone replying for the Cuckoos while top flight newcomers Wellingborough drew for the second time, 2-2 at Long Buckby. Munday takes the Olney reins
Olney have had an eve of season managerial change with Andy Griffin stepping down after two years in charge, due to work and family commitments. Long serving player Danny Munday takes charge at East Street, assisted by Mark Lancaster who has rejoined the Nurserymen from Daventry.
Spencer storm to the top
Tuesday evening's Premier Division action saw Northampton Spencer move to the top of the table, beating Desborough 4-0 to bring Ar Tarn down to earth after their own opening day success. Two first half goals from Zac Nedimovic put the Millers on the way to victory with Matt Collins and Chris Davies doubling the tally after the interval.

Deeping and Blackstones head the challenge from the north after making it back to back wins in week one. Rangers saw off Stewarts & Lloyds 3-0 at Outgang Road with a first half John Paul Duncliffe brace and Stuart King effort in the second half. Stones won 2-1 at St Ives with Andy Boome and Ashley Stevens, with a penalty, on target after Ian Fovargue opened the scoring for the Saints.

A goal in each half from Jonny Rowan gave Boston Town a 2-0 home win over Bourne while Newport Pagnell and Potton shared two goals at Willen Road, a Barry Sells opener for the Royals cancelled out by Tom Hill's equaliser.

Ford Sports again featured in the highest scoring match, but again came off second best to new look Raunds. Adam Taylor scored the season's first hat trick for the Shopmates whose other marksmen were Callum Ridgway and Ian Symington, with Chris Trill, Tim Clack (penalty) and Jon Crockett replying for the Motormen.

Clark in shock Stotfold exit
Stotfold were rocked by the eve of season resignation of Glen Clark as manager. The summer appointee quit on Friday night less than 24 hours before his side took on Bourne in their opener. Coach Ian Williscroft and reserve manager Terry Kitchener took charge against the Wakes, with goalkeeper Nigel Blower joining the caretaker management team when Kitchener departs on holiday.
Desborough and Wootton set the opening day pace
Desborough and Wootton head the first Premier Division table of the season after impressive opening day victories on 12th August. Ar Tarn surprised Holbeach 3-0 at Carters Park with Mark Forbes, Michael Chong and Michael Byrne sharing the goals. Wootton stunned one of the sides expected to be in the thick of the title race, Yaxley, with a 3-0 Weston Park success. Danny Wilkinson, Leon Cashman and Jack Weedon netted for Blue Cross.

First half goals from Luke Dowling and new signings Zac Nedimovic and Ben Foster set Northampton Spencer on the way to a 3-1 victory at Stewarts & Lloyds who replied with a second half spot kick from Colin Hutchinson. The highest scoring match of the day came at Blackstones where Tony Lowther's side withstood a late Ford Sports fightback to kick off with a 3-2 victory. Richard Thompson, Ross Watson and Graeme Epps were on the scoresheet for Stones with debutants Andy Bennett and Jon Crockett replying for the Motormen. The only new manager to make a winning start to the campaign was Deeping's Tuncay Korkmaz whose side overturned an interval deficit to win 2-1 at Cogenhoe. Efforts from Andy Ellis and new man David Cobb won it for Rangers with Scott Goodacre the Cooks' first half marksman.

Two new managers were in direct opposition at Roker and second half goals from Ian Thorne and Craig Reynolds gave Stotfold, in the temporary charge of Ian Williscroft and Terry Kitchener, a 2-2 draw with Glenn Notley's Bourne who led through Miles Mason's first half brace. In a much changed Raunds side one of the few survivors from last season Richard Tanner netted both goals in a 2-2 home draw with St Ives who also had a two goal marksman in Graeme Thackray.

Top flight newboys Wellingborough shared the spoils at the Dog & Duck, drawing 1-1 with last season's runners up Potton. Sleaford win Invitation Cup
Sleaford received a massive confidence boost for the new season with a 3-2 win over a young Lincoln City side at Cranwell to become the first winners of the Sleaford Invitation Cup.

Town went ahead through Kris Jones after 7 minutes and Pete Sutton doubled the advantage with a 24th minute spot kick. Jack Corton opened the Imps' account five minutes into the second half, but Joe Richardson scored a third for Sleaford after 67 minutes. Lee Welburn scored a late Lincoln consolation with four minutes remaining.

Romans management duo in second exit
Pressure of work has forced Irchester United managerial duo Bob Reed and John Dower to leave the Alfred Street helm for the second time. The pair took over from Steve Whitney at the start of last season after leaving Division One rivals Kempston.

Long serving player and club secretary Glynn Cotter will take temporary charge until a permanent appointment is made. Former Roman Martin Howarth, whose playing career was ended by a knee injury, will assist.

Spencer beaten in Maunsell Cup final
A deluge delayed the start of the Maunsell Cup final at Kingsthorpe Mill and restricted the attendance to 144, but Northampton Spencer acquitted themselves well against the professionals of Peterborough United before going down 3-0 on 22nd July. It took 32 minutes for Posh to make the breakthrough, Chris Plummer on the mark, and three minutes before the interval Jamie Day scored a second for the visitors. A 68th minute third from former Premiership striker Trevor Benjamin sealed victory for Peterborough.

Wootton carried off the Dudley Latham Memorial Cup with a 4-2 win over Chalfint St Peter at Weston Park. Steve Gentle's 5th minute opener gave Blue Cross a great start with Leon Cashman doubling the lead after 27 minutes. A double from Barry Brosnan after 50 and 60 minutes hauled Chalfont on terms, but goals from Jack Weedon on 65 minutes and Cashman twelve minutes from time won the contest for Wootton.

UCL flying high in new Eagle Bitter deal
The UCL are pleased to announce a new three year sponsorship deal with Eagle Bitter brewer Charles Wells Ltd of Bedford.

It means the league will be called "The Eagle Bitter United Counties League" until the end of the 2008-09 season.

Peter Gowans, Regional Sales Manager of Charles Wells Limited said:
"We are delighted to have secured the sponsorship of the UCL for another three seasons and in doing so become the longest running sponsor in the league's history. Eagle Bitter will have been associated with the league for nine years."

"Our pub estate is positioned within the five counties covered by the UCL league and gives Charles Wells the opportunity to show our support for the region whilst supporting other marketing initiatives to drive even more awareness of our brands".

"It's a long term commitment and whilst the details are confidential the new deal represents an increased investment of over 35%, however, we see the exposure of the UCL and its member clubs growing as non league football is restructured by the English Football Association".

John Weeks, Chairman of the UCL, thanked Charles Wells for their continued support. Commenting on the agreement he said:
"This is the most lucrative sponsorship deal in the league's history and reflects the growing interest in the exposure the non league game offers". He continued "Research shows that during the season our league alone appears in newspapers and other publications with a combined circulation of approaching one million every week. That's incredible exposure for our sponsors name across the region and nationally, whilst our results service on the net had over 600,000 visits last season, an almost 40% increase over the season before".

"This kind of exposure offers considerable benefits for companies to work with the UCL and anyone interested should contact the league's commercial agent, Sports Marketing Services, who worked with Charles Wells to create the new sponsorship agreement, on 01604-660697."

Verity back at Bugbrooke

Robinson left Sileby in mid-season after a season and a half assisting Fernie Fields boss Gary Petts.

Bugbrooke and Mackintosh part company
Bugbrooke and manager Danny Mackintosh have parted company to end his three year stint at the Birds Close helm.
