Taverners Complete The First Leg Of A Possible Cup Double.

As we are coming towards the business end of the season there were only four games played on Sunday. The most important of these being the Division One Cup Final which was contested between Chells Rovers and Squirrel Taverners. It turned out be a great entertaining final in which Squirrel came out 4-1 victors. The Taverners now have an opportunity to make it a cup double when they take on Troll Campbell in the Carl Couzens Challenge Cup Final on Sunday May 26th at Arlesey Town.

There were two other cup ties played and these were the semi-finals of the George John Cup. In the first semi-final St Ippolyts from Division Two had a tough home tie against Division One side Atletico 99. Despite St Ippolyts putting up a fight Atletico proved to be too strong and came out 3-1 winners. The other semi-final was an all Division one affair between Pied Piper and AC Malone.  It was AC Malone who controlled the game throughout winning by a 6-1 scoreline. Daril Ngwala opened the scoring for Malones by curling in a free kick, he then did the same thing ten minutes later to double their lead. Ben Fairey then pounced on a loose ball at the back to make it 3-0 at half time. In the second half River Amis smashed in from a corner to make it four before Pied Piper pulled one back. This slight set back didn’t stop AC  Malone who got their four goal lead back when Dion brilliantly played in Ricardo Green who curled the ball around an onrushing keeper to make it 5-1. There was still time to add one more as Kane Stanton got in on the act sending a right footed shot across the keeper to seal Malones place in the final against Atletico 99.

The final game of the day was in Division Two and this saw GSS at home against Sandon. An Ashley Daniels penalty plus a Marcus Dolby freekick secured a 2-0 win for GSS.

Sunday 12th May sees the Division Two Cup Final between Arlesey Town FC and St Ippolyts FC. The game will be played at Arlesey Town Football Club and will kick off at 3.00pm. Entry fee is £5 per person and children under 12 are free. Payments to be made in cash.
