Inter-League match - result

The Gravesend League retained the George Fooks Trophy after an exciting inter-league game against the Sevenoaks & District Leagueon Wednesday 5 May 2010 at Otford United FC.

 

Although the match ended in a 2-2 draw, as holders the Gravesend League kept hold of the trophy.

Applications from new clubs

The Gravesend Football League welcomes applications from clubs wanting to join the League for the 2010/11 season.

 

Clubs must be based in Kent within a 20 mile radius of the Gravesend Clock Tower.

First honours of the season

Joydens Wood gained the first honours of the season as they overcame Oakfield 2-1 at the Kent Sports Club on 3 April 2010 to win the Dampier Palmer Cup.

Inter-League representative matches (update)

Due to fixture congestion, the Sevenoaks & District Football League have decided not to play the ‘B’ level game (i.e. excluding players from Premier Division teams) this season but the senior game will be played.

 

This has been arranged for Wednesday 5th May 2010 at Sevenoaks with a 7.30 p.m. kick-off.

 

Further details will be posted in due course but, in the meantime, nominations for players to represent the League should be sent to Peter Danzey.

Reminder - Annual Presentation Evening

The League’s Annual Presentation Evening & Dance has been arranged for Saturday 22nd May 2010 at the Fleet Leisure and Sports Club, Nelson Road, Northfleet.

 

Presentations during the evening will include:

 

·        The Player of the Year Trophy

·        The Hall of Fame Personality Trophy

·        The Curtis Cup for Sportsmanship

·        The Club Efficiency Award

·        Trophies to the successful clubs

·        Individual mementoes for the winners and runners-up of each Division and Cup Competition

·        Mementoes for the match officials appointed to the cup final ties

Kent Junior Cup - 6th Round

The League’s last two representatives in the Kent Junior Cup were in action in the 6th Round on Saturday 6th March 2010 but both went out of the Competition.

 

  • In Group A, Lullingstone Castle went down 3-0 away to Swale United of the Kent County League; and
  • In Group C, N.K. Aces Reserves travelled to Sandwich but suffered an 8-3 defeat by Pfizer

Referee coverage update (2)

We are pleased to advise the following coverage rate by officially appointed referees:

 

  • January/February 2010 – 58 out of 58 matches – 100

This represents an overall rate of 98.5% so far this season.

 

We are also pleased to advise that it was possible to appoint Assistant Referees to a number of League and Cup matches

Closing date for registrations and transfers

Clubs are reminded that the closing date for registrations and transfers is Monday 1st March 2010.

Eligibility for Cup Semi-Finals or Final Ties

In order to be eligible to play in a Semi-Final or Final Tie, clubs are reminded that players must have played for their club in at least four games prior to the playing of the respective Semi-Final or Final Tie.

Inter-League representative matches

Arrangements are being made for two Inter-League representative matches against the Sevenoaks & District Football League, as follows:

 

  • A senior game to be played at Sevenoaks; and 
  • A junior game (i.e. excluding players from Premier Division teams) to be played in Gravesend.

Referee coverage - update

We are pleased to advise the following coverage rate by officially appointed referees:

 

  • November/December 2009 – 48 out of 49 matches – 98% 

This maintains the overall rate at 98% so far this season.

 

We would, once again, extend our thanks to all of the referees on the League’s List for helping us to achieve this level.

Kent Junior Cup - 5th Round

The League’s last three representatives in the Kent Junior Cup are due to be in action in the 5th Round on Saturday 6th February 2010 and the draw has thrown up the following ties:

 

  • In Group A, Lullingstone Castle will be at home to Erith 147 Sports of the Kent County League. 
  • In Group C, Culverstone United will travel to Wingham of the Canterbury & District League. 
  • In Group C, N.K. Aces Reserves will be away to O’Connells of the Rochester & District League.

 The League’s best wishes are extended to these teams for further progress in the Competition.

The season resumes

The season resumed on Saturday 2nd January 2010 after a short break for Christmas and the New Year.

 

However, only two games survived of the full programme of fixtures due to unfit pitches.  Match reports have been added to the website.

Fixtures have been arranged for Saturday 19th December 2009 but there will be no fixtures on Saturday 26th December 2009.

Donations by the Charity Cup Competitions

The Management Committees of the Charity Cup Competitions met recently to discuss the distribution of funds from the proceeds of the Competitions for the 2008/09 season.

 

We are pleased to advise that donations totalling £2,300 will be made, as follows:

Football is often given poor publicity, but we should all be pleased and proud that these donations are helping people in their various organisations – both locally and nationally.

 

Clubs should inform all of their players, officials and supporters of these donations.

Referee coverage

We are pleased to advise the following coverage rates by officially appointed referees for the first two months of the season:

  • September – 39 out of 40 matches – 97.5%
  • October – 54 out of 55 matches – 98.2%  

This represents an overall rate of 97.9% so far this season and we would extend our thanks to all of the referees on the League’s List for helping us to achieve this level.

Kent Junior Cup

We would offer our congratulations to the following teams which have reached the county wide stage of the Kent Junior Cup:

Postponed matches through bad weather

We have experienced some inclement weather in recent weeks and would take this opportunity to remind club secretaries of the procedure when, as the home team, you have to postpone a fixture on the day of a match.

You should notify:

  • The secretary of the visiting team
  • The referee
  • The Referees Secretary so that the referee can be reallocated (if possible)
  • The Fixture Secretary
  • The Result Secretary – if he has not been informed the match is off then you may be fined for failing to phone the result that evening (see Rule 11(B))

The start of the season - 5 September 2009

The new season got off to a fine start in relatively hot and sunny weather, with 51 goals being scored in the 10 games played.

Code of Conduct for the 2009/10 season
The League's Code of Conduct is intended to provide a minimum standard of behaviour for the players, officials and spectators/supporters of clubs in membership of the League.

Football is a game that should be played in a spirit of friendship. Players, club officials, spectators/supporters and match officials alike, should also enjoy the game.

Players

1. The League expects fair play at all times.
2. Do not become involved in disputes with officials, opponents or spectators/supporters.
3. Do not use foul or abusive language towards officials, opponents or spectators/supporters.
4. Let the referee deal with any controversial incidents in the game and do not retaliate against opponents.
5. Do not applaud cautions, sendings-off or the errors of opponents.
6. Treat the changing rooms and facilities of all clubs you visit with respect.
7. Remember that teamwork, effort and enjoyment are as important as winning.
8. Learn to win and lose with dignity.
9. Shake hands with match officials and opponents after the game (whatever the result).
10. At all times, remember that you are representing your club and the League and act accordingly. Be sensible and enjoy yourself.

Club officials (team managers, coaches, etc.)

1. Club officials, particularly team managers, have a crucial role to play in the game and should set a positive example for others.
2. Encourage your players to play in the correct spirit and avoid all forms of gamesmanship.
3. Do not abuse your own players or those of the other team.
4. Handle any unruly behaviour among your spectators/supporters before it gets out of control.
5. Do not use, or tolerate, foul or abusive language to match officials, players or spectators/supporters.
6. Under no circumstances enter the field of play during a game, unless expressly requested to do so by the referee.
7. Referees and assistant referees, including stand-in match officials, have the full authority of the Football Association. It is the responsibility of club officials to ensure that they are treated with respect.

Spectators/supporters

1. Remember that your actions influence the mood of the players and the game.
2. Do not abuse match officials, however much you may disagree with their decisions.
3. Encourage all players and applaud their efforts.
4. Do not ridicule opponents for their mistakes.
5. Do not applaud foul play and do not incite your players to commit fouls.
6. Do not use foul or abusive language to players or other spectators/supporters.
7. Do not use physical violence or threaten anyone.
8. Do not enter the field of play during a game, unless asked to do so by the referee.
9. When you are supporting your team, remember that you are representing your club and the League and act accordingly.

Every club should ensure that all of their players and officials read and understand this Code of Conduct and that it is drawn to the attention of their spectators/supporters.

Meeting of League Clubs
A meeting of League clubs will be held at the AEI Henley Sports Club, Dunkirk Close, Gravesend on Tuesday 18 August 2009 at 7.30 p.m.

The main purposes of the meeting are to:
1. Receive the League Handbooks for the 2009/10 season
2. Consider any alterations to the Laws of the Game
3. Receive the first Fixture Circular for the 2009/10 season and a supply of match result cards

Each club is entitled to send two representatives to the meeting. Clubs are reminded that failure to be represented will entail a fine of £20.00.

Registrations
A supply of registration forms was distributed to each club at the Annual General Meeting and club secretaries are reminded that all clubs must have a minimum of 12 players registered for each team 14 days prior to the commencement of the season (i.e. on or before Saturday 22 August 2009) or a fine will be imposed.

KCFA Affiliation Numbers for the 2009/10 season
If the General Secretary has not been notified of your club's KCFA affiliation number for the 2009/10 season, you are requested to attend to this matter immediately.

Any delay may affect the start of the season for your club and result in a fine being imposed if any fixture is not fulfilled.

Officers' responsibilities for the 2009/10 season
The following information has been provided to assist club officials:

TREASURER (Tony Scott - 01474 706605) deals with financial matters, including payment of invoices and collection of fines.

FIXTURE SECRETARY & ASSISTANT SECRETARY (Peter Danzey - 01474 567697 or 07833 283431) deals with all matters concerning the scheduling of fixtures (including allocation of pitches, where appropriate), postponements, cancellations, requests for stay of fixtures and making arrangements for cup finals and representative matches, and receipt of match result cards from clubs.

REFEREES SECRETARY (Gary Kennard - 01634 402041 or 07970 851782) deals with all matters concerning the appointment of referees for fixtures and any other matters affecting referees.

REGISTRATION SECRETARY (Neil Twyman - 01474 537203 or 07918 165511) deals with all matters concerning the registration of players and transfers.

RESULT SECRETARY & PRESS OFFICER (Bill Baldwin - 01474 355187) receives telephoned match results from clubs (including the results of all Kent Junior Cup and external Cup Competition matches), provides match reports for the local press, and receipt of match report cards from referees.

GENERAL SECRETARY (Derek Carey - 01322 288389) should be contacted on all matters concerning League administration not covered elsewhere, e.g. all general business matters, protests, matters relating to misconduct, social events, suggestions, etc.

If you do need to make contact with any of the League Officers, will you please keep your calls to the stated office hours, which are from 7.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. on Monday to Friday, unless special arrangements have been agreed or it is an emergency. Your co-operation in this respect will be greatly appreciated.
