Broughton: John Umney

Oakley: Ben Moses, Alex Woodfine, Tom Key, James Keeble (2)

Oakley ended Broughton North Newington’s unbeaten run of six games with a convincing 5-1 win and maintain their own push for the division one title. The day didn’t start well for Oakley as they were stuck on the M40 delaying the kick off by an hour. The first half an hour was an even affair with neither side really testing either goalkeeper. Karl Tucker had a chance to open Broughton’s account for the day on 32 minutes when the Oakley keeper spilt a free kick at his feet but the keeper made a good save to deny Tucker. Oakley opened their account for the day on 37 minutes, a long ball wasn’t dealt with by the Broughton defence allowing Ben Moses the chance to chip the on rushing keeper from 25 yards. 1 – 0. Into the second half and Oakley quickly extended their lead with goals from James Keeble and Tom Key. 3-0. To their credit Broughton kept trying to match Oakley in playing good football and on 78 minutes Broughton managed to open up the Oakley defence. The on rushing Jason Tillcock was brought down my last man Aaron Rodgers, penalty awarded and surprisingly only a yellow card produced by the referee. John Umney stepped up and coolly smashed the ball into the side netting giving the keeper no chance. 3 -1
Broughton stepped up the pace and tried to push forward to reduce the deficit but it was Oakley who picked them off twice in the final 5 minutes with goals from Keeble and Alex Woodfine. 5-1 Broughton will be hoping to bounce straight back with a victory in their next game away at Yarnton on Tuesday night.
