Mansfield Rd 1 Launton Sports 1
Saturday, 07 September 2013
MRFC: James Watkins,
LSFC: Jack Meeks
A game where the resilience of both teams overcame the prowess of the attacking line-ups.
The game started at a good pace, with both teams moving the ball around neatly. Launton then took control and dominated play for twenty minutes. Twenty minutes was enough to see them score the first goal. After a break past the central defender mansfield road never recovered and after a couple of attempts, a nice cross to the back post was slotted home.
It was then Mansfield Road's turn to take control. The next twenty minutes saw mansfield dominate possession and play some very tidy football. In the thirty-fifth minute Watkins came was substituted on, with five minutes he was also on the score sheet. A lovely weighted pass found him behind the Launton back line, with forty metres left to go. He burst forward with keeping the chasing pack behind him all the way and finished delightfully. Halftime all square.
The second half saw neither team take any control for any significant period. With tiring legs either team could have won it, but it was probably fitting that they did not as the defenders had worked hard throughout the game and produced most of the best football, albeit that of the tackling nature.
