It was de je vou at Spelthorne these two teams met at the start of last season, but Spellys management were hoping for a better result than last time in their defence of the championship having lost last seasons opener 0-1.

The championship side of last year had to make a number of changes for various reasons. The Glassman had gone down under to see if he could make a living between the sticks, the Beast returned in goal which meant a few center forwards Achilles were going to get a rest this year. Dolly was out injured when his ankle finally realized it could not take that much weight for much longer. Sticky was away on a stag weekend, lightening was still nursing a severed finger from the previous week?s stag weekend & jigsaw was away playing tents.
Spelthorne has a large squad this year & when you are given the opportunity to play its up to them to grasp it with both hands. The players were licking their lips at the thought of Mike Hunt making it?s debut for Spelly, but it had a bit of a hairy experience on the way to the game & decided to split.

The team lined up for the game in their new kit, which is sponsored by Horizon. They looked a looked quality & started to play the ball around. Not much was going past the defence & the flick missed an early opener when he scuffed past when it would have been easier to score.

The 1st goal was not long in coming when the Flick headed against the bar the ball came out to Lionel who drove home from 18 yards. Top scorer from last season Menace was not hanging about & soon rounded on the defence to take us in at half time 2-0 up.

The players were encouraged to finish the game off early on & took to the field in the 2nd half with purpose. The 3rd goal came as D.B burst through on the right & blasted it past the keeper.

Spelly made a number of changes Martin, Jimmy & Steff all made their Sports debut. The team had gone a little flat & had not adjusted to the changes made when Colour broke down on the right to score to make it 3-1.

Sports responded well to the vocal volley given to them from the bench & soon finished the game off with two quick goals. The 4th came when The Menace picked the ball up by the right hand corner flag run at the keeper & waited for him to commit himself before scoring near post. The 5th goal came when The flick scored from 12 yards out to open his account for the season.

The whistle was still along way off as we had a bit of injury time due to the theatricals that was played out in front of Sports goal. We all thought he should have at least got a yellow card for the dive but instead got an Equity card. Now taking bookings for this seasons Panto?s.

At the final whistle we all left pretty happy & set off in search of Mike Hunt.

FINAL COMMENT THE HORIZON IS STILL A LONG WAY OFF
