Wootton Blue Cross 5 Potton United 3
Tuesday, 25 September 2007
Wootton picked up their first league win of the campaign with victory in this Bedfordshire derby at Weston Park.
Craig Daniel gave Blue Cross a third minute lead from 25 yards and a further setback for Potton saw Craig Lanham dismissed. Nonetheless Damon Pickering levelled for the Royals two minutes past the half hour.
Wootton took a stranglehold on the game with three goals in the last nine minutes of the first half. Anish Khinda restored the home side's advantage after 36 minutes with the aid of a deflection of Potton manager Dean Chapman, Krysztof Matieskiewicz extended the lead two minutes later with a stunning 30 yard strike and Daniel's second goal of the night on the stroke half time sent Wootton in at the break on a high.
Ben Gallant scored a second for Potton after 52 minutes but a 67th minute Scott McGregor effort direct from a free kick ended the Royals' comeback hopes. The visitors did manage an 84th minute consolation with John Mulholland the marksman.
