Launton: Tom Woodridge,
An exceptional freekick taken by Tom Woodridge from 25 yards secures three points for Launton Sports 1st team. With victories over last week opponents Charlton Fc, and yesterday’s victory against Freeland Fc, this was Launton’s first back to back victories in the Oxfordshire Senior League for three seasons.
But it was Freeland who had the early opportunities to take an early lead with Richard Trigg and Tom Foley, both beating the offside trap but their efforts were thwarted by the Launton keeper James Lissitter. A definite wake up call for Launton who started to create their own chances. Ben Miles, Mark Scanes and Andy Gledhill all had great chances to put Launton but was not clinical enough to score. In the 20th minute, a freekick was awarded to Launton after Scanes was fouled a few yards in the oppositions half. Up step Woodbridge to take the freekick. And with stunning accuracy, he shot the ball beyond the reach of the Freeland keeper Jamie Ford. HT 1-0
The home side piled on the pressure in the second half but was not successful in increasing their lead. Woodridge, Gledhill, Alsworth came close, but not close enough. Even when Freeland’s James Lambert was sent off for his handball in the penalty area, Scanes missed the penalty by shooting well wide. With 10 men Freeland were becoming the better team but fortunately for Launton Chris Johnson in midfield, Jason Davies and Jonny Moore in defence were on their game and stopped all attempts for an equaliser coming from Freeland. FT 1-0
