Mansfield: James Watkins, Soufian Kessabi (4), Dan Trinder, OG Marston: Ceri Holmes On a very cold but sunny day at the University Club, Mansfield Road welcomed a Marston Saints team they hadn't beaten in a long time. With key players missing, Marston struggled against Mansfield Road passing game. Allowing Mansfield Road to take control of the game and taking a quick 3-0 lead in the first half, some great team play leading to James Watkins finishing after the goalie had saved well for the first goal. The second coming from Soufian Kessabi after a long ball was missed by the Marston makeshift defence and he finished over the goalie's head. The 3rd goal coming from Dan Trinder when he lobbed the goalie through a number of defenders with the goal of the day. The second half started slow for Mansfield Road, with Marston really coming at them hard looking to get back into it. Some great defending all afternoon by the Mansfield Road defence meant that chances for them were few and Sam Wharton up front getting no supply or support while looking lively. Marston did get in and score through Ceri Holmes heading in at the back post after a rare slip by the Mansfield Road defence. The deciding moment of the match came when Mansfield Roads 'Management Team' working closely together, decided to move the pocket rocket Cameron Knight into the middle from the wing. Neutralising Marston supply and allowing Mansfield Road to pick the Marston Saints defence apart with some fantastic through balls and runs from midfield and wingers. Setting up Kessabi for 3 more and an unlucky own goal from a Marston defender from a great cross into the box. It was a great day for and could have been more from Mansfield Road, however a goal at 3-1 for Marston could have made it a very different game!
