Wednesday, 07 April 2010

There was shootout heartbreak for the Royals as they were beaten 5-4 on penalties after two hours' play failed to produce a winner.

Dean Hamilton gave Potton the lead two minutes in, volleying in a Graham Tibbals pass from 18 yards.

Tibbals was twice thwarted by goalline clearances from Lee Loasby as Potton looked the more dangerous but they were pegged back by a 50th minute Ryan Smart spot kick after Chris Geldart was adjudged to have fouled John Cooper.

Potton had a good penalty shout turned down when Adam Furness was sent tumbling, but failed to claim the winner they deserved.

Hamilton, Tibbals, Peter Chappell and Tom Galvin scored in the shootout but Adam Furness had the second Royals kick tipped onto the bar, while Ryan McNabor, Cooper, Jermaine Hall and Smart all scored for Crawley with Aaron Loney saving Rion Macdonald's fifth kick.

In sudden death Phil Cusack gave Crawley the lead and substitute Matt Dear's miss saw the Royals defeated.

Potton: Aaton Loney, Nyasha Sagwete (Ryan Butler), Chris Geldart, Stewart Haddow (Matt Dear), Peter Chappell, Phil Durrans, Tom Galvin, Dean Hamilton, Graham Tibbals, Joe Aris, Lewis Healiss (Adam Furness).
