Bourne Town  1    St Neots Town  2

Tuesday, 30 March 2010

Two goals midway through the second kept St Neots' title hopes alive as they turned round an interval deficit to take the points at the Abbey Lawn.

Early St Neots pressure saw Rob Hughes, Jon Mitchell and Lewis Webb all go close from distance.

Bourne took the lead with their first noteworthy attack after 22 minutes. Nathan Stainfield brought the ball out of defence and fed Lee Orrey whose pass into space played Keith Gray clear to score with a low drive from the edge of the box.

Two Hughes free kicks almost provided a Saints equaliser late in the half. From the first Adam Jones headed narrowly over and the second through a crowded box was cleared off the line by Adam Jackson.

Visiting pressure intensified at the start of the second half. Liam Harrold shot across goal, james Peagram forced Lee Drury into a full length save and from the resulting corner Webb volleyed just over.

When Bourne lifted the siege Sam Kirton's curling shot was narrowly off target.

After 63 minutes Matt Haniver's 25 yard shot was deflected to safety, and from a Hughes corner Harrold found space at the near post to score with a stooping header.

Webb fired against the angle of post and bar from distance before St Neots scored the decisive goal after 69 minutes. Danny French crossed from the right and a defender's header only helped the ball on to Peagram who cut inside and chipped the ball over Drury.
