St Ives Town 1 Bourne Town 2
Tuesday, 15 April 2008
Bourne picked up the win which banished relegation fears and left Bedfordshire duo Potton and Wootton sweating over the Premier Division's second relegation place.
The Wakes started brightly and took the lead after 22 minutes when two debutants combined, Andy Toyne's pull back setting up Ollie Ryan to slot home at the near post.
The visitors went further in front on the half hour. Home keeper Rob Mackney raced out of goal to kick clear from Scott Spearink, Aaron Ridout played the ball back towards the home goal and Spearink's lay off enabled Mark Angel to lob the ball home.
Ryan was denied a third Bourne goal by Mackney early in the second half before St Ives began to exert pressure. Jamie Blackwell put a curling shot wide before the Saints reduced the arrears after 63 minutes. Blackwell broke down the left but was floored by Bourne keeper Aaron Bellairs when clean through on goal. Liam Kennett converted the spot kick.
A dangerous Blackwell run on the right set up Max Francis-Johnson who fired wide at the near post while at the other end Spearink missed a chance to wrap up Bourne's success after Mackney spilled an Angel free kick.
