Bourne Town 2 Rothwell Corinthians 1
Tuesday, 23 February 2010
A double strike from Lee Orrey saw the Wakes take the points against a young Corinths side at the Abbey Lawn.
The visitors almost took a second minute lead when Bourne keeper Lee Drury lost possession on the edge of the area, but Ian Hay's goalbound shot was held up by the mud enabling the keeper to recover.
Corinths took the lead after eleven minutes. Tom Judge's free kick was knocked down into space by Hay for Sam Johnson to slide the ball home.
Chris Dunn almost increased Rothwell's lead, rising above the home defence to head Dean Murray's free kick across goal.
A good advantage by the referee set up Bourne's 23rd minute equaliser. Keith Gray was caught by a defender as he broke on the left but kept his feet to slip the ball into the path of Orrey who slid the ball just inside Tom Cross's right hand post.
Orrey almost put the Wakes ahead late in the half, rounding Cross but with a tight angle he was only able to find the side netting with his shot.
Bourne took the lead four minutes into the second half when Gray's pass found Orrey who used his strength to hold off a couple of defenders before forcing the ball home from close range.
Gray fired into the side netting from Giuliano Stffieri's pass, while at the other end Sam Johnson found space behind the defence to collect a Murray pass, but his shot lacked power and was cleared off the line.
Substitute Dan Schiavi almost added a third for Bourne in stoppage time but his shot from distance was narrowly off target.
