Wellingborough Town 2004 1 Northampton Spencer 0
Saturday, 16 February 2008
This Northamptonshire derby proved a lacklustre affair with few chances at either end.
Warm up injuries forced both sides to change their line ups and when play got under way the two reshuffled defences managed to get the better of the strikers on display.
The Doughboys looked the marginally more dangerous side going forward and Alfie Taylor was narrowly off target just before the half hour mark.
Wellingborough made the breakthrough after 32 minutes when Rob Gould headed in a Luke Pritchard corner from the left.
Shaun Markie in the Millers goal saved well from Taylor to keep his side in the game.
Spencer built up well from the back but struggled to create any noteworthy openings.
David Glass brought Markie into action from long range after Jon Mitchell and Taylor linked up while late on Cornell Haughton's flick set up Dan Spaughton whose shot was deflected for a corner.
