Blackstones 2 St Neots Town 4
Saturday, 23 January 2010
St Neots extended their unbeaten run to ten games as they kept up their pursuit of pacesetters Daventry Town.
An own goal by Stones keeper Ian Flavell gifted St Neots a 14th minute lead, the keeper only able to help the ball over the line after Rob Hughes challenged for a Liam Harrold knockdown but three minutes later Richard Jones hauled the home side level, scrambling the ball over the line after Darren Glover headed back a Kevin Ainslie free kick at the far post.
The visitors went back in front through Tony Scully after 34 minutes, the Irishman catching Favell off his line with a stunning 40 yard volley.
Dan Jacob gave St Neots a firm grip on the game, netting after 44 and 47 minutes. His first was a low shot from Harrold's pass and his second on resumption was again set up by Harrold after Michael Hyem carried the ball from deep in his own half.
Home striker Avelino Vieira had a header cleared off the line as Blackstones fought back.
Substitute Sam Strange scored a Stones consolation after 83 minutes, punishing a mistake by Adam Jones.
