The Romans shared the goals around as they moved to within six points of leaders Peterborough Northern Star with this high scoring Hayden Road success.

Mike Houghton gave Irchester the lead eleven minutes in after a cross was headed back across goal.

The secnding off of Gary Broadway for a professional foul left the Lankies with a mountain to climb and their task became harder still when Chris Caswell added a second a minute before the half hour mark, heading in a right wing cross.

Rushden & Diamonds work experience youngster Dan Easlea scored with a header after 38 minutes of his debut to keep the Lankies in touch.

Nicki Young restored Irchester's two goal lead after 54 minutes, deceiving home keeper Sam Foulser with a bouncing shot but the home side responded with Craig Scriven cutting the deficit with a low shot from the edge of the box on 56 minutes and Easlea equalising with a great strike five minutes later.

Paul Caswell found space to regain the lead for Irchester after 75 minutes despite Foulser's best efforts to keep the ball out and they eased clear of their hosts with an 83rd minute Jason Vaughan effort punishing a Dale Brunton mistake before Jamie Gilsenan completed the scoring two minutes into added time.
