Holbeach United 6 Boston Town 0
Monday, 26 December 2005
The Tigers ran riot against title chasing Boston who never recovered from the 28th minute dismissal of goalkeeper Nick Maddison for handball outside his penalty area.
The Poachers looked bright early on with Paul Goodhand twice going close with the game goalless, but Holbeach took the lead after 13 minutes when Omar Joof outpaced his marker on the right and crossed perfectly for manager Shaun Keeble to head home.
Back came Boston with Shaun Baker heading wide from a Ross Don-Duncan free kick and Gary Bull bringing home keeper Kevin Cross into action to save a fiercely struck effort at the near post.
Then came Maddison's abberation and with no keeper on the bench, Baker took the gloves. His first task was to pick the ball out of his net as Danny Cairns fired the free kick through the wall with the stand in rooted to the line. Eight minutes before the interval Holbeach were three goals clear, a Cairns shot deflected for Tom Fielding to head home from close range. Just before the break Bull was inches wide from the edge of the box for the Poachers.
On resumption Holbeach quickly wrapped up the points. Keeble hit the post from distance before the Tigers extended their lead on 52 minutes, Keeble lifting the ball over Baker and Fielding finishing the job with a close range header. A sublime chip by substitute Steve Barnes made it five after 56 minutes.
Goodhand was narrowly off target from distance as Boston sought a consolation but Holbeach had the last word after 89 minutes, Neil Mitchell scrambling the ball home.
