Norton Sports 6 Bearsted 0
Saturday, 26 January 2008
For twenty minutes the Bears worked hard to hold their hosts and apart from a Darren Slatter effort, which struck the crossbar, neither side really threatened either keeper; then, on 25 minutes a mix-up between keeper Phil Lewis and fullback Seb Brimsted resulted in the ball trickling into the net for an own goal. Ten minutes later Norton were two up when, following a corner, centreback Ben Taylor with his back to goal juggled the ball in Berbatov like fashion, pivoted, and drove the ball past a helpless Lewis.
After the break and on 56 minutes, a through ball from the outstanding Jack Goodger allowed Tommy Price to run through unchallenged and lob Lewis for the third. Bearsted strived manfully to get back into the game, but apart from one effort by Stuart Brockman, rarely troubled Chris Smith in the Norton goal and were second best in most departments.
On the hour mid-fielder Michael Holden scored the goal of the game, fastening on to a Lewis clearance and volleying home from all of 30 yards. Two further goals from substitutes Paul West, with a close range header, and a solo effort from Kerry Glover completed a thoroughly comprehensive defeat for Bearsted, leaving them with plenty still to do to rlemain above the relegation zone."
