Blackstones 2 Boston Town 3
Wednesday, 07 December 2005
Boston capitalised on Blackstones' defensive errors to reclaim second place in the Premier Division with this victory which was harsh on a battling Stones side who made light of playing seventy minutes with ten men after Gareth Williams was red carded after a clash with Poachers midfielder Nathan Collins.
By then Boston were a goal to the good, Gavin Barnes heading into his own net five minutes in while attempting to cut out a Paul Goodhand pass aimed at Gary Bull, while Goodhand was inches away from adding a second with a free kick.
Stones equalised after 29 minutes when a deep cross from Robbie Blowers found Dan Cotton at the back of the box and the youngster fired home. Just before the interval Kris Jones looped a header over from a Matt Price cross.
Ian Flavell saved well from Nathan Collins at the start of the second half but the Poachers goal had an amazing escape around the hour mark. Cotton crossed from the left, Jamie Gilsenan fired against the bar as did Craig Scotcher with the follow up.
Blackstones didn't have to wait long to go in front though as Cotton expertly curled in a free kick which left Paul Buttery rooted to the spot after 62 minutes. The Poachers were level within two minutes when substitute Dave Scotney deceived home keeper Flavell to find the net.
The keeper was again culpable a quarter of an hour from time when he failed to cut out Scotney's cross allowing veteran Gary Bull to score his 19th goal of the season.
