S&L ended a run of eight matches without a win as they completed a double over the Premier newboys. After a scoreless first half which saw Liam Kennett miss a great chance for the home side and Saints keeper Aaron Bannie thwart Chris Caswell and turn a Dom Johnson shot onto the bar, Graeme Thackray gave the Saints a 56th minute advantage after Glyn Cooke's free kick was headed down, but their afternoon soon took a spectacular downturn. Chris Caswell levelled for S&L on the hour with a close range effort from Dave Donativo's cross and sixty seconds later Sean Brennan fired home from the spot after Paul Doherty was sent tumbling by Dan Pilsworth, to give the visitors the lead. St Ives were then reduced to ten men when Glyn Cooke was dismissed for alleged use of the elbow. Gary Owen scored a 72nd minute third for the visitors after a strong run through a heavy midfield. Dan Newman's foul on Danny Rogers saw S&L awarded a second spot kick which Bannie saved but Doherty completed the scoring with a diving header from a Caswell cross with three minutes remaining. The Saints then had Will Fordham red carded after the final whistle for comments made to the referee.
