For third week running, Orpington first-team’s Kent Intermediate Shield fixture with Bromley Green was postponed.  This time the problem was a collapsed sewer outside Green Court Sports Club resulting in no water supply to the clubhouse.

Oh well, another excuse to watch the Rezzers.  Orpington Reserves made the short journey to meet neighbours Bromleians Sports Reserves.  With Orpington losing their eleven match winning run the previous week, and Bromleians with five wins and a draw in their last six outings, this looked an enticing encounter.

However, Orpington were soon into their stride, keeping the home side penned in their own half for the first twenty minutes.  During this time, Orpington scored two goals.  The first of these arrived on ten minutes when Gary Gorman was grateful for the referee intercepting a Bromleians pass and deflecting the ball in his direction.  The O’s forward ran into the penalty area and forced a good save from Daniel Timon, but the Broms keeper couldn’t keep out GG’s follow-up shot.

Ten minutes later and Jack Lynch performed some dazzling foot-work on the left before switching the ball out right to Robbie Haines who took the ball forward and beat Timon from just inside the penalty area.

Just before half-time, Orpington had a chance to put the game beyond their hosts, but Robbie Haines couldn’t convert from the penalty spot after he had been upended - Timon pulling off a good save.

Bromleians Sports enjoyed more possession in the second-half and made some flowing moves but found it difficult to test John Walker in the O’s goal.

Orpington had to wait until the 80th minute before making sure of all three points when Robbie Haines beat Timon with a stinging shot from just inside the area, after Bromleians had failed to clear a corner.

With five minutes remaining, Jack Lynch robbed a defender and crossed for the hard working Josh Hawkins to fire home for the fourth and final goal - a well deserved goal for a tireless performance.

Next week, Orpington’s first-team will try again to play Bromley Green in the third round of the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield at Bromley Green, but don’t hold your breathe.
