Daventry United 1 Blackstones 3
Saturday, 18 February 2012
Stones completed a double over the Motormen with this success on a heavy Communications Park pitch.
It was an outcome which seemed unlikely in the early stages which were dominated by United.
They took a sixth minute lead when Will Briscoe's free kick was turned in by Jamie Gould.
Briscoe cut inside to shoot just over and then Tom Lorraine fired into the side netting after taking a return pass from Will Green.
Blackstones equalised after 29 minutes from their first notable attack. Danny Barker's through pass sent Simon Mowbray through to win a tussle with Jon Crockett and fire home.
Gould went close for United but it was Stones who went ahead five minutes from the break, Mowbray heading in from a Luke Avis delivery from the right.
The visitors started the second half well with Adam Scotcher and Mowbray going close, and they extended their lead on the hour. A quick free kick from Avis found Barker on the left and as he worked his way infield he was impeded by Martin Hutchcox and Scotcher netted the spot kick.
Daventry pressure saw Briscoe fire wide after slaloming through the visiting rearguard while Gould and Green were thwarted by Lee Crockett in the Stones goal.
Mowbray twice went close for Blackstones, but a strong home finish saw Jon Crockett denied by Andy Buckle's goalline clearance and Luke Hunnings similarly thwart Green.
