Eynesbury Rovers  3    Desborough Town  4

Saturday, 10 September 2011

Desborough snatched victory at the death in a thrilling encounter.

Ar Tarn took a sixth minute lead when Aaron McKenna through ball sent strike partner Joey Middleton clear to slip the ball under keeper Carl Mackney.

Rovers were level after 28 minutes when Mackney's long clearance saw Lee Bassett outpace the visiting defence to beat Callum Leech with a low shot into the far corner.

The contest was well balanced until Desborough struck twice in three minutes early in the second half. After 59 minutes Mark Inskip's back pass was picked up by keeper Mackney and from Danny Rogers' rolled free kick Jamie Gilsenan fired over the wall of bodies gathered on the line.

Three minutes later Toby Williams was adjuged to have handled a cross from  Ryan Gormley from the right and Kevin Byrne converted a twice taken spot kick.

Out of nothing Rovers produced a stunning fightback. They were back in the game on 86 minutes when Inskip fed Ben Cole who flicked the ball over a defender and curled his shot past Leech.

Two minutes later were on terms when Bassett found Cole who centred from the right for sub Joe Kokotka to head home at the far post.

The comeback was wrecked in the 90th minute when the home rearguard lost concentration and Byrne lost his marker to head the decider from Lewis Harman's free kick.
