St Neots Town  3    Blackstones  3

Saturday, 19 February 2011

The league leaders salvaged a point in stoppage time after trailing to their mid table visitors for most of this exciting encounter at the Hunts Post Community Stadium.

In difficult conditions Stones started brightly with Addie Staffieri's shot forcing Tim Trebes into a save while at the other end Dallas Moore's pass inside the full back played in Kieran Davies but Mick Duggan was off his line quickly to snuff out the danger.

Blackstones took a 24th minute lead when Ben Porter's shot took a wicked deflection off Jordan Gent to wrong foot Trebes.

Ten minutes later the visitors doubled their advantage with first time passes from Ben Porter and Billy Oliver sending Addie Staffieri clear to score his 23rd goal of the campaign.

When St Neots replied Glen Fuff had a volley blocked from Lewis Hilliard's corner and just before the interval a Theo Davis through ball sent Davies clear on goal but after pushing the ball past Duggan he stumbled on the slippery surface and the ball trickled wide of the target.

St Neots came out in determined mood for the second half and Duggan was well placed to save Stefan Moore's far post header.

Moore did haul St Neots back into the game after fifty minutes, sweeping in Hilliard's right wing cross from close range.

Within two minutes Stones had regained their two goal lead, David Burton-Jones outjumping Trebes to head in a free kick from Elton Holmes.

Duggan was forced into a fine tip over from his own defender Luke Hunnings but Blackstones posed a threat on the counter with Oliver forcing Trebes to tip over.

Heavy home pressure was finally rewarded after 74 minutes. Hilliard's inswinging corner was headed off the line by Tim Quy but Moore followed up to bundle the ball home.

Former Blackstones man Davies twice went close to pegging back his former club, striking the bar from fully 30 yards and then drawing a point blank save from Duggan.

Staffieri outpaced the defence down the left, but his cross shot was inches wide of the target.

St Neots salvaged a vital point two minutes into stoppage time. Moore held off two defenders in the corner to cross and Lewis Webb arrived on cue at the near post to power home a header.
