Division One champions Irchester's top flight opener ended in defeat as Martyn Lakin made a winning start as Poachers boss.

Boston had warmed up with a series of pre season victories and they maintained the winning habit thanks to a Lewis Brooks goal direct from a free kick three minutes before the interval.

Poachers debutant James Doughty enjoyed a good start making three fine saves, two of them from Shaun Goodall early on and once from substitute Ryan Cottingham,  to deny the Romans some reward from a rugged encounter.

Boston: James Doughty, Lawrence Lambley (Mark Thompson), Shaun Baker, Nathan Stainfield,. Mark Foster, Alex Beck (Ollie Pinner), Lewis Brooks, Dan Schiavi, Gary Bull, Liam Nimmo. Adam Jackson.
