St Neots Town  6    Northampton Spencer  0

Saturday, 07 August 2010

St Neots put down an early marker with this emphatic first day victory.

A seventh minute Rob Hughes spot kick set the ball rolling after Junior Kanuda was fouled in the box.

When Spencer replied Phil Cassidy beat Luke McShane with a dipping volley only for the crossbar to preserve the home lead.

Former Rushden & Diamonds teenager Lewis Hilliard added a second goal sixteen minutes in, lobbing Millers keeper Pete Smith from 25 yards from a Dan Chillingworth pass.

Eight minutes before the break Hilliard scored his second after Kanuda and Chillingworth worked the opening and by the break it was four, Chillingworth netting on his Saints debut after 41 minutes with a header from Will Fordham's diagonal cross.

Dan Jacob scored the fifth home goal after 65 minutes, running from the halfway line at pace to beat Smith with a cross shot and Lee Bassett had the last word with five minutes remaining, rounding off a flowing move instigated by Hughes and continued by Tony Scully and Dessie Byrne.
