Wellingborough Town 2004  2    Yaxley  0

Saturday, 08 August 2009

There was a winning start at the Wellingborough helm for new manager Rob Gould as a goal in each half sent Yaxley crashing to their first defeat in four Dog & Duck visits.

Jonny Hazell gave the Doughboys a tenth minute advantage, netting with a first time shot from a Nathan Walter cross to round off a flowing move instigated by Scott Cross and continued by Wayne Richardson.

The Doughboys had the better of the first half and when the Cuckoos replied they found the home defence solid. Anthony Thomas was close to a Yaxley leveller from long range while Marc Day was narrowly off target with a header.

Wellingborough's win was sealed twenty minutes from time by former Northampton Spencer man Richardson whose quickly taken free kick caught out the visiting goalkeeper.
