Tuesday, 23 March 2010

Daventry ran out comfortable winners over the relegation threatened Shopmates at Kiln Park, with only a series of fine saves from Chris Jones preventing the title chasers from adding to their tally.

The outcome was effectively decided bu two goals in little more than a minute in the first half.

Ryan Howell opened the scoring after 18 minutes, going full length to head in a Tommy Kinch free kick.

Before Raunds had time to recover Josh O'Grady smashed home a great strike from 30 yards after Richard Wesleu's left wing run.

The angle of post and bar denied Tom Berwick two minutes into the second period, but the Town top marksman put his name on the scoresheet from the spot on 54 minutes after being fouled by Ben Emony.

Raunds: Chris Jones, Luke Tyler, Tom Scarrett (Ben Singleton), Deven Ellwood (Jay Guney), Jim Le Masurier, Luke Walker, Matt Pinnock, Luke Bewers, Leigh Chapman (Matt Peacock), Ben Emony, Dave Townsend.

Daventry: Joe Mellings, Martin Hutchcox, Tommy Kinch (Tom James), Andy Gregory, Jason Lee, Ryan Howell, Josh O'Grady, Adam Confue (Paul Lamb), Tom Berwick, Russ Dunkley (Danny Nelson), Richard Wesley.
