Stewarts & Lloyds Corby  2    St Neots Town  2

Saturday, 12 September 2009

St Neots missed the chance to go top of the table as last season's champions Stewarts & Lloyds got off the mark with their first point of the new season.

Jon Mitchell, signed the day before from Desborough, gave St Neots a first minute lead, after Luke McShane's clearance was ficked on by Liam Harrold but within two minutes Lee Garvie had leveller for S&L with a left footed shot from the edge of the box.

Michael Byrne put the home side in front on the half hour, intercepting a McShane clearance as the keeper slipped and rolling the ballinto an empty net, but they were pegged back six minutes before the interval by Rob Hughes's first goal for the Saints, a flick from a Tony Scully centre.

In the second half St Neots had the better of things with Mitchell denied a second goal by a goalline clearance and right at the end, by the crossbar.
