Town regained pole position in the Premier Division with this narrow victory in the first Daventry derby of the season.

The league's leading scorer Tom Berwick missed a gilt edged chance to give Town the lead before they broke the deadlock on the half hour.

Defender Martin Hutchcox was the marksman with a speculative overhead kick which eluded home keeper Lee Farrow and defender Nick Bailie as they attempted to clear on the goal line.

Danny Finlay and Tommy Waldock went close to a United reply before half time, while Waldock had a penalty appeal rejected.

The home side had the better of the closing stages without ever really threatening to unlock the division's meanest defence. The title chasers did survive another penalty appeal for handball with Liam Hynes inches away from a leveller at the death...
