Star's two prolific marksmen added to their goal tallies as Tommy Cooper's side strengthened their grip on the Division One title race.

Daventry had an early penalty shout rejected after Carl Lawes went down in the box.

Karl Gibbs gave Star the lead thirteen minutes in with his 23rd goal of the campaign, rising abve the defence to head in  Wayne Morris centre and six minutes later Mark Paul doubled the home lead darting in to score after Ian Edge flicked on Ronnie Fortune's corner.

Before the break Chris Plummer hit the post from another Star corner.

Paul inched ahead in the race for top scorer with his 24th of the season three minutes into the second half, taking Fortune's pass and clipping the ball over keeper Ryan Whittle from 25 yards.

Gibbs also struck the bar before the visitors were denied a late consolation by the woodwork.

The win took Star nine points clear at the top of the division.
