Tuesday, 02 October 2007

Wellingborough twice saw victory snatched from them at the death and in the penalty shootout it was Buckby who emerged victoirious.

Vinny Shrieves gave the Doughboys an 8th minute lead after nipping between two defenders and rounding home keeper Paul Warnecki and when Jon Mitchell added a second for Wellingborough after 52 minutes an away victory beckoned. Jon Crockett started the Bucks fightback after 81 minutes, heading in a Jamie Wright cross and Amrit Sidhu levelled in the final minute with a close range header after Richard Bunting's shot came down off the underside of the bar.

Luke Dowling put Wellingborough back in the lead thirteen minutes into extra time, heading home from a corner, but in the second minute of time added on at the end of extra time Crockett's second of the night, again a header from a flag kick, took the match to penalties.

Danny Duggan, Sidhu, Dan Burke and Richard Bunting all converted their kicks as Buckby won the shootout 4-2. Michael Sneddon and David Glass were the Doughboys scorers but it was veteran keeper Paul Warnecki who was the Buckby hero with two saves.
