New Star manager Tommy Cooper started the campaign with a win but it was touch and go for the new look Chestnut Avenue outfit who broke Corinthians' resistance with just two minutes to play, Steve Phillips slotting home from the penalty spot to decide the contest in the home side's favour.

Corinths had missed a penalty themselves just befoe the break, Sam Johnson the culprit while Star substitutes Ashley Favell and Ashley Fone were denied by the woodwork before a foul on Phillips proved crucial to the outcome.
