United completed a double over the Romans but the visitors provided much sterner resistance than they had when losing the Alfred Street encounter 7-0 in October.

An Allan Haynes spot kick after 25 minutes gave United the interval lead, but Irchester replied seven minutes into the second half with Gary Evans levelling the scores.

Wayne Richardson was the Daventry matchwinner with the decisive goal on the hour.
