Saturday, 24 September 2005

Goalkeeper Andy Scott turned from villain to hero as Sleaford embarked on their quest for a fourth Lincs Senior Cup B success in five years with a shootout win over competition newcomers Caistor. After an even first half Sleaford went close through Pete Sutton and Paul Reece before Robin Holderness gave them a 74th minute lead with a deflected cross shot. Five minutes later Ryan Allen put Caistor level, and five minutes into extra time Scott kicked the ball into his own net under pressure from a Caistor striker. Reece levelled with five of the additional thirty minutes remaining following good work by skipper Steve Rowland.

Redemption was close at hand for the Sleaford custodian as he saved the first two Caistor spot kicks. Rowland missed Sleaford's third kick but Holderness, Lee Llewellyn, Jon Machin and Oliver Sidney made successful conversions to take Sleaford through.
