Wednesday, 26 April 2006

Sleaford are Division One champions after overwhelming a depleted Star side at Cranwell in front of Town's best ever crowd at the venue. The visitors competed well in the first half but fell behind when Jamie Shaw scored Sleaford's 100th league goal of the season 20 minutes in, firing home from ten yards after a good run by Matt Lunn. Shaw doubled the lead twelve minutes later with Lunn again the creator. A third goal arrived after 56 minutes from Lunn who shot home from the edge of the box and when Pete Sutton added number four on the hour, heading in a Shaw centre it was celebration time for Brian Rowland's charges. Sutton scored again after 77 minutes with a shot from the outside of his foot and Paul Reece joined the scoring spree with five minutes left, hammering home a 25 yard drive. Doug Jackson scored an 87th minute consolation for Star but the last word went to Shaw who scored his 42nd domestic goal of the campaign a minute from time - double the tally of his nearest rival in the divisional scorecharts.
