The Wakes bowed out of the Vase at the first hurdle as their Northern Counties East League visitors proved too strong. Cornell Haughton missed a great chance to give Bourne an early lead. Two goals in the first half from Simon Johnson won the tie for Shirebrook, the striker scoring after 8 minutes after intercepting a weak back pass and 36 minutes after another piece of poor Wakes defending. Miles Mason reduced the deficit after 75 minutes, firing home from the penalty spot after being fouled, but it was too little too late for Bourne as pressure late in the match went unrewarded.
