Newport claimed a Ryman League scalp with this excellent victory at Wodson Park. The Swans took an eighth minute lead through Peter Rowe who latched onto a long ball from defence by John Thorpe to slot home, but the scores were level at the break, Joe Stephens replying for the Hertfordshire side after 31 minutes direct from a free kick. Steve Dean restored Newport's advantage after 59 minutes, beating the keeper with a shot on the turn after a good build up on the right, and Tom Hill's success from the spot after a handball nine minutes later sealed the Swans' win.
