St Neots Town  4    Yaxley  3

Saturday, 26 November 2005

Yaxley's two year reign as Senior Cup holders came to a surprise end as ten man St Neots found their shooting boots to plunder a last gasp victory. Steve Kuhne gave the Saints an 8th minute lead with a far post header from a Peter Gatti cross, only for Cuckoos top scorer Mark Paul to level within four minutes after a Simon Acton through ball sent the goal ace racing through a static home defence. Gary Walker restored the home side's lead after 23 minutes after punishing a Chris Lenton error but around the half hour mark the Saints were reduced to ten men with Danny Griggs red carded for a kick out at Lewis Richardson. The outcome looked bleak for the Saints when Matt Hall set up James Picillo for a 47th minute equaliser. When Scott Bogusz pressured Jon Hoggett into an own goal to put Yaxley in front with twenty minutes remaining the Cuckoos looked set to extend their club record unbeaten run to 15 games. St Neots fought back though and levelled after 82 minutes through substitute Mark Phillips who ran onto Gary Walker's through pass. The comeback was completed in the dying seconds with Phillips' through ball setting up Walker's second goal of the afternoon to give the Saints a famous victory.
