Whitworths  3    Burton Park Wanderers  2

Saturday, 08 October 2005

The Flourmen claimed their first victory in six league and cup outings but were given a run for their money by a rejuvenated Burton Park. The visitors were first to score, Marco Giacobbe on target ten minutes in after a good build up involving Craig Townsend and Martin Tamplin, but James Westley equalised for the Flourmen after 20 minutes with a header. Ben Holley put Whitworths ahead in the dying seconds of the first half with a quality strike from a Kris Line pass, but battling Burton were level on the hour through Andy Greensmith who headed home from a corner. Just five minutes remained when Holley's sixth goal of the campaign gave Whitworths a win which lifted them to fifth place in Division One.
