16/9/06: Molten SSML Premier Division

Leverstock Green 4 – Edgware Town 2

Leverstock Green collected another three points with 5th place Green playing 2nd place Edgeware Town, and extended their unbeaten league start to six games. The Green now go 3rd in the Premier Division and once again played with a new goalkeeper Mark Davidson and they welcomed back Mark Welling but Alan Arthur, John Pedder, Joel Canning and Jim Dewick were all missing due to injury.

Edgeware opened up with some good football but were equaled to the task by the Green who gradually got to grips with a fast moving Edgeware team. The game was evenly balanced until the 22nd minute when the Green scored 3 goals in 11 minutes. The first goal came from man of the match James Armstrong who crossed the ball from the left to find Dale Sears on the far post to score from a neat header. The Green had to wait all of 5 minutes to score their second; the Referee pulled back play to award Green a free kick which was taken by Josh Price. His kick somehow found through a melee of players and Matt Plaskett scored with ease.

The Green scored a third is 33rd minute when James Armstrong was tripped from behind whilst running the ball along the goal line towards the corner flag. The Referee was unsighted but the referees assistant who was well placed indicated that Armstrong had been brought down. After a quick discussion the referee gave a penalty kick which Armstrong took and scored.

Edgeware were not happy with this set of events and started to give away free kicks and arguing with the referee. In the 39th minute the referee gave another free kick and Mark Buchannan of Edgeware Town spoke out of turn was sent off the abusive language.

The second half started much the same as the first half with both teams creating chances but not completing the final ball. In fact the Green had two guilt edge changes to score in the first 5 minutes of the half when Paul Leslie hit the post and Rob Blackburne had to claw the ball of the goal line after the ball hit the bar.

Edgeware scored their first in the 58th minute when Stuart Blackburne scored after good work from Adil Salim. Edgeware scored again 5 minutes later when Adam Wallace bundled the ball over the line. The Green made the game safe in the 76th minute, Paul Leslie throw in to James Armstrong, who collected the ball and turned his marker with ease and powered in to the penalty area and smashed the ball past the Edgeware goalkeeper with his right foot.
