Leverstock Green  0    Tring Athletic  0

Leverstock Green extended their unbeaten league run to six matches, however this was also their fifth successive draw. This local derby was an evenly-fought but dour struggle with few goalscoring chances, in which there looked little to separate two teams that were ten places apart in the table at start of play.

After an uneventful opening, the visitors had the first sight of goal on 11 minutes when Adie Skyers? shot from outside the box was tipped onto the post by Green keeper Kevin Marsh. Three minutes later Lee Johnson?s pass was flicked on by Scott Walters to James Armstrong, who got in a shot that didn?t unduly trouble Tring keeper Tom Vincent.

On 26 minutes Tring had their best chance when Ben Williams? pass bisected two Green defenders to put Skyers clean through, however his eventual shot was wide of the post. Four minutes later Armstrong and Steve Boad both broke forward onto a pass from Terry Nightingale against one Tring defender, however Boad?s eventual cross was cut out by Vincent.

Green looked the better side in the second half, but still rarely looked like scoring, and the flow of the game was not helped by a whistle-happy referee who booked seven players over the course of the match. Ben Chesters came on as a half-time substitute, and came closest to breaking the deadlock nine minutes from time when he ran across the face of the penalty area before unleashing a fierce shot which dipped inches over the bar.

Tring had a few half-chances with headers during the second half, but none of them were on target, and three minutes from time when a Green free kick was headed clear, Skyers broke away and managed to put the ball across the face of goal, but nobody was following up to apply the final touch.

Team: Marsh, Felgate, Clark, Nightingale, Johnson, Boad, McKane, Welling, Walters (Armson), Underwood (Chesters), Armstrong.
