Premier Division
Leverstock Green 7 Haringey Borough 1
Saturday, 04 October 2003
Leverstock Green gave Haringey a football lesson when the Green beat them by
seven goals to one, although the lead was only one nil at half time. A Steve
Whitby free kick in the 2nd minute split the Haringey defence when he hit
the ball low across the goal but Tony Sears was given offside when he looked
to open the scoring. Four minutes later Whitby played a great pass to Matt
Johnson whose good shot was saved by goal keeper Chesson. Sears picked up
the loose ball but his shot went across the Haringey goal.
In the 14th minute a Milton throw in found Dennis Fenemore who shot at goal
but once again Chesson saved by putting the ball around the post for a
corner. The game after this point went into a period where both teams kept
giving away the ball with no stamping their authority on the game.
It was not until just before half time that the Green really got going
again. In the 41st minute Lee Johnson played a great pass to Fenemore who
beat two players and crossed to Rob McKane. McKane forced a great save again
from Chesson who put the ball away for another corner. In the 42nd minute
the Green took the lead, a Milton pass down the touch line was picked up by
Sears who cut in and smashed the ball into the net.
The second half was nearly all one way and the Green scored a minute after
the break. Chesson kicked the ball from the edge of the penalty area, the
ball went to Neil Bartlett who hit the ball back at goal, the ball bounced
over the struggling Chesson into the empty net. Three minutes later the
Green increased their lead, Sears took a throw in which Antony Beamish
headed on and Steve Boad finished off the move to score.
With only 51 minutes on the clock the Green scored their 4th goal, their 3rd
in five minutes. Once again a Tony Sears throw in caused the Haringey
defence a lot of problems, this time Boad helped the ball on and Matt
Johnson scored.
In the 59th minute Matt Johnson scored his second, after Sears again shot at
goal and Chesson parried the ball, Johnson was on hand to score from the
rebound. Two minutes later saw the Green score their sixth goal. Sears was
again involved when he and Milton exchanged passes which allowed matt
Johnson some room. The young striker made no mistake to score once again and
to make his hat trick.
In the 76th minute the Green scored yet another goal when a Steve Whitby
free kick was headed home by Beamish. This gave the Green a seven goal lead
but there was time at the death for Haringey to score a consolation goal
Brade scored with a terrific shot.
So ended a one side game and allowed the Leverstock Green to increase their
goal difference and to win their 6th Premier Division game from eight
starts.
