Garsington: Daniel Johnson (Pen)

Adderbury: Josh Bowden (3), Josh Riley (2), James Trevitt

Garsington today welcomed Adderbury to Denton lane playing them for the third time this season. Both previous matches resulted in wins for Adderbury but with 2 good performances and some players coming back from injury Garsington felt that this match could be a serious turning point for them. Adderbury started the game much the better team and within 12 minutes Josh Bowden had given them the lead after a defensive error from Craig Hambridge. This seemed to awaken sleepy Garsington and they looked much improved in a more even 15 minutes that followed. However Garsington were dealt another blow when Josh Riley smashed an unstoppable effort from 18yds that smashed in under bar leaving Garsy keeper Scott Butler with no chance.
This stunned Garsington who let their heads dip for the next 5 minutes. This gave the visitors just what they needed and yet another defensive error saw Josh Riley nip the ball from Almantias Silda (when a Cruyff turn in the box when horribly wrong) and slot his second of the game on 36 minutes. To Garsington’s credit they then started to rally late into the first half and they were denied a wonder goal when a 25 yard Callum Smith free kick was wonderfully saved by the Adderbury keeper. With their tails up Garsington then had hardworking forward Michael Bateman taken out by the advancing Adderbury keeper when through on goal and a penalty was awarded. Dan Johnson calmly stepped up and despatched his 4th Pen of the season to make it 3-1. Garsington were then pressuring the Adderbury goal when a goalmouth scramble lead to the Adderbury keeper receiving an injury which would force him off. This gave Garsington great hope going into the second half.

The second half saw the home side come out with a renewed vigour and with a substitute goal keeper to aim at Garsington came out positive to have the best of the early exchanges, keeping possession and carving out the better of the chances. With the home side pushing forward early in the second half they were soon rewarded when Referee Mark Wilkins (who had a great game officiating) awarded another penalty to Garsington on 65 mins this would give Garsington the lifeline they needed to get right back into this match. However first half hero Daniel Johnson (who was having an excellent game) hit the bar. To make matters worse Adderbury then broke away, went straight up the other end of the pitch and Josh Bowden calmly slotted to make it 4-1 and effectively finish the game as a contest. What a cruel game football can be. This seemed to really demotivate the Garsington troop who had battled hard to this point. They were then dealt a further blow when Garsington keeper Scott Butler saw a long ball bounce straight through his hands on 72” and hand Josh Bowden the easiest of tap-ins to secure his hat-trick and make it 5-1. With the match effectively dead and buried Garsington did create a couple of good chances when on 75” Mark Gregory fired just over the bar and on 83” when Chris Peck Missed a 1-on- 1 after great work and cross by Dan Johnson. Then with time all but up and Garsington looking battle weary David Wall flattened an opposing player in the box and James Trevitt calmly slotted to make it 6-1 and compound Garsington to yet another defeat.  If Garsington can cut out the mistakes they have enough to climb the table, but they need to work hard from 1 to 11, play like a team and believe they can do it !!!!
