Saturday, 16 November 2013

Broughton: Jack Kettle (3) , Ben Evans

Watlington: Sam Carter, Frank Wilkie

For the second consecutive week Broughton scored 4 goals as they took the honours from a hard working Watlington side who never gave up.

Jack Kettle started the ball rolling with a spectacular over head kick. Watligton hit back when Frank Wilkie fired home a tremendous 25 harder. Broughton kept pressing and after a string of fine saves by Paddy MacParland in the Watligton goal Jack Kettle notched again to give Broughton a 2-1 half time lead.

Broughton came out full guns blazing and skipper Kevin Berry was denied a rare goal when the referee was unable to give a swerved cut back that crossed the line but came back into play. From the resultant corner Paul Trussler was denied for the home team by a slick goal line clearance. Broughton were not to be denied and substitute Ben Evans on his debut slotted home after some great midfield work by Olly Byne and Colm Tucker. A Jack Kettle header for Broughton's fourth and his own hat trick sealed the points for the homesters.
However Watlington never gave up and after a corner was failed to be cleared by the home defence Sam Carter slotted home to give Watlington a second .

The game was played in a good spirit throughout and gave referee Alex McIntosh's an enjoyable afternoon in the middle.
