Stonesfield  3    Rover Cowley  3

Saturday, 06 December 2008

A host of missed chances came back to haunt Stonesfield when Rover  Cowley grabbed a late equaliser to go away with a share of the points.Stonesfield should have been in front before Rover opened the scoring with a far post header following a corner that Stonesfield failed to clear, but it didn't take long for the equaliser to come when the impressive Tarry was brought down in the box and Knight smashed home the resulting spot kick.Rover took the lead again when a near post cross wasn't dealt with and the ball was prodded over the line, only for Stonesfield to equalise within a minute when Tarry made the most of some hesitation in the Rover defence to round the keeper and slide the ball home. The 2nd began at a frantic pace with both sides playing neat football and it was Stonesfield who went ahead following a great ball from Jabba Clarke to Tarry whose first touch took him beyond the defenders to hit the back of the in clinical style. It was now end to end stuff and Stonesfield had numerous chances to put the game out of Rover's reach but it wasn't to be,and when they failed to clear the ball down the right hand side it was Williams who fired home from the edge of the box to grab the equaliser.Probably a fair result but having created so many chances Stonesfield will feel it was 2 points dropped.
