Mansfield Rd  3    Freeland  3

Saturday, 18 October 2008

A keenly-contested & entertaining match saw Mansfield Road and Freeland share the points on Saturday.  Freeland took an early lead when a deep cross from the right wing was heading powerfully back across goal in to the far corner.  Freeland continued to apply the pressure in the early stages of the game, and Mansfield Road slowly started to make their way back in to the game as the first half drew to a close, but the score remained 1-0 to Freeland at half-time.  Mansfield Road continued to apply pressure in the second half, and equalised after 70 minutes when Danny Trinder's cross was powerfully headed home by Steve West.  This sparked a flurry of goals, with West converting another Trinder cross from the opposite side to make it 2-1 to Mansfield Road.  Freeland were given a foothold back in the game when a long-range shot wasn't dealt with by Stuart Whigham in the Mansfield Road goal, and the ball spun over him into the net to make the score 2-2.  Freeland then went 3-2 ahead when a corner wasn't dealt with by the Mansfield Road defence, and was slammed home with the aid fo a deflection.  However Mansfield Road equalised with 5 minutes remaining to make it 3-3, when Joel Lazarus bravely headed home after David Kay's effort had rebounded of the crossbar.
