Slade Farm  1    Hinksey  0

Saturday, 18 October 2008

Slade Farm edged out Hinksey in a tight and tense league game to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. In a game of much endeavour but little quality, it was a cat and mouse affair in the early stages. Then midway through the first half, Slade caught the visitors napping from a throw-in in the top right hand corner, Adam Barker got the ball back to feet and delivered a deep back-post cross that found James Allen unmarked, and he made no mistake with his downward header. Slade almost doubled their lead when Robbie Alexander's exquisite volley from outside the area was magnificently tipped onto the post by the Hinksey keeper, with the ball rolling agonisingly back across the goal line and away to safety.
The second period was a backs-to-the-wall job for the home side, as Hinksey raised their game in search of the equaliser. Slade defended manfully, showing great organisation and commitment, but they were still indebted to keeper Nick Lacey for two top class saves to keep the visitors at bay. In the end, Hinksey couldn't quite find a way through and Slade hung on to go home with the three points.
