Rover Cowley  1    Garsington  2

Saturday, 18 October 2008

Rover will be wondering how they managed to lose this game against local rivals Garsington. Two first half goals from Jelroy Constant, beating the offside trap and the square Rover defence put Garsington 2-0 up at half time. The unfortunate Liam O'Callaghan also had a rasping shot turned onto the crossbar by the Rovers Keeper, but Rover also had a hatful of chances including two one-on-ones which were missed.

That was not the end of the scoring; in the second half Rover dominated and did enough to earn at least a point however only one goal could be recovered, an excellent side-foot finish from the impressive Luke Day reducing the deficit, but Garsington held on.

Both teams will wonder how only three goals were scored in this game, two shots from Garsington were cleared off the line, one a piece from Terry Stockford and Matty Hambridge preventing Garsington extending their lead. Although the cricket season has ended a cricket score would have been more appropriate against two attacking-minded teams. At the end of this pulsating encounter, Garsington walk away with their pride in tact after this close game.
